Path to Clarity
This piece went through many titles: ‘From Chaos to Order and Back,’ ‘ Replacing Darkness with Space,’ ‘Finding Space,’ ‘Darkness vs. Light.’ And the one that stuck, I quite like ‘Path to Clarity’
My year has been about finding focus and this piece represents it so well. I remember having the epiphany of knowing that I wanted to be a freelance artist when I grew up, I thought I was set! Then as I explored the different routes that I could take, I kept finding more choices, dreaming a few more, and of course, I wanted them all, I wanted them now! But I would have missed so many lessons collected while walking the way.
Path to Clarity is an interaction of shape and color finding some order; going from crowded to space, windy to straight. The limited complementary palette representing compromise and opposition at the same time.
This small piece stands at 5x7 inches but has had quite the journey. It came with me to my first pop-up market, then was entered and accepted into an art show, it won an award, and found a new home.
This is what Joe Mac Kenchnie, the art show juror, had to say “ Often, abstract or non-objective art can be difficult to “get.” The artist must understand good design and offer a visual language that the viewer can interpret. If the artist strays too far, they risk losing their audience. The other trick is the use of a title to help the viewer to connect with a painting. Cristina’s work “Path to Clarity” has met and exceeded these requirements. My first impressions when I look at her piece:
passive colors at the top, with some dark notes at the bottom
movement, throwing something away
ridding the obstacles from my life
positive, redirection of energy”
Thank you Joe Mac Kenchnie for your kind words and perspective, and thank you HG, dear new collector, for making my day, too!
I hope we all continue to find clarity every day.
