my visual art manifesto

ola! I am Cristina Kramp an illustrator and lettering artist. A Latina that cares how illustration and lettering support education, emotional growth and human connection. With what I call: visual encouragement. I believe art gives voice to the complexities of human emotions, helping people understand themselves and feel less alone. For me, written words paired with images are effective and enduring.

Have you heard of the Dual Coding Theory? It tells us that our brains work with a verbal way for language and a nonverval way for imagery. They both help understanding and make concepts easier to remember because of the powerful combination of two mental pathways (from Clark & Pavio 1991 and Scienceinsight 2026).

In my creative process, I use stylized drawing and the elegance of hand drawn letters to explain concepts and make them memorable. I create pieces to make people feel and think; blending digital and analogue techniques. Favoring the handmade, I love the imperfect and organic because it says ‘human’. Using water media, calligraphic influences, and historical typography, I explore illustration as a bridge between understanding and education, emotion and growth, and expression and connection. My practice is rooted in experimentation and curiosity, which helps me improve, always searching for better ways to communicate with heart.

The visual version of my art manifesto starts with a mustard base with big letters: “LET’S BE REAL” as a foundation, where concentric circles become the home for the main message:

pink: I illustrate for education, emotional growth, and human connection. Using image and word to make complex ideas visible, memorable & felt.

yellow: To always find your own permissions to shine, to experiment, to be curious, to improve

blue: I hope my art brings you inward and reminds us of what matters

green: That we connect with others, feel seen and less alone.”

I first tried to write the message from the center out, for a symbolic from the inside to outside transition, but it was much harder to read. Legibility won this one.

There is a plant growing from the darkest center. It represents the organic, flourishing, and development.

Surrounding the circles is a collection of my beliefs, to make it easier to read I have grouped them into categories:

I believe good messages + images travel further and last longer

I believe art can teach as deeply as words, I design with layers of meaning beyond the literal

I believe quality beats quantity, yet quantity builds a practice

I believe beautiful things can hold difficult truths

I believe people need encouragement that is honest, not shallow

I know art can create bridges between cultures & generations

I know growth begins with awareness

I know forcing creativity keeps ideas away

I know imperfect is human

I know we each define what success means

I know enough, I am enough

I create what I need to remember

I embrace mistakes as learning

I value my experience and abilities, and I doubt my doubts

I create practical beauty because tangible reminders matter

I want my art to make truth more beautiful, and beauty more meaningful

I strive to live from the inside out

I welcome open and clear communication

I reject unkind, belittling and meaningless

What you just read is a collection of mantras that are and have been important in my journey. I have often asked myself what I want and what is important to me, having a poster version is helping me reflect often and remind me of what I stand for. Editing what I wanted in it and not, made it more clear, putting it into writing makes it real.
